Winter Activities at The Franklin Club

The Winter Experience at The Franklin Club

Winter brings an entirely different character to The Franklin Club. The lake freezes over, snow settles across the property and the Club becomes a place for members and their families to get outside, enjoy the season and experience the property in a completely different way.

From a morning spent ice fishing on Franklin Lake to an afternoon on the trails or a skate on the outdoor rink, there is always a reason to pull on the boots and head outside. And when it is time to warm up, the Clubhouse is never far away.

A Season All Its Own

There is something special about winter at The Franklin Club. The quieter pace, snow-covered trails and frozen lake offer members another way to enjoy the Club’s 200-acre property throughout the colder months.

Spend the day ice fishing, bring the family out for a skate, strap on a pair of snowshoes or skis and explore the trails through the woods. Some days are active, others are simply about enjoying a walk through fresh snow and taking in the scenery. However you choose to spend it, winter is very much a part of life at the Club.

Many of our winter activities are weather and ice-condition dependent, making every season a little different. When the conditions are right, there is plenty of winter to enjoy.

Ice Skating

Few things feel more Canadian than an outdoor skate on a clear winter day. When weather conditions cooperate, the Club maintains an outdoor skating area where members and families can lace up and enjoy some time on the ice.

Bring the kids, meet up with friends or simply enjoy a few quiet laps surrounded by the winter landscape. It is an easy way to turn an afternoon visit to the Club into something memorable.

Ice Fishing

Fishing doesn’t stop when Franklin Lake freezes over. Once safe ice conditions arrive, members can continue enjoying the Club’s trout fishery throughout the winter months.

Our ice fishing season typically begins in January and offers a distinctly Canadian way to spend a winter day at the Club. Heated ice huts provide a comfortable place to settle in, while members can also fish outside and enjoy the crisp air and quiet surroundings of the frozen lake.

Whether you’re introducing the family to ice fishing or simply looking forward to getting another line in the water, winter offers a whole new way to enjoy fishing at The Franklin Club.

Ice fishing is subject to safe ice conditions and Club notices.

Snowshoeing

Fresh snow transforms the Club’s trails into an entirely new landscape.

Snowshoeing is one of the simplest ways to explore the property during winter, taking members through quiet forest, open areas and snow-covered trails across the Club’s 200 acres. Head out for a short walk after lunch or make an afternoon of it with family and friends.

Bring your own snowshoes, bundle up and see a different side of The Franklin Club.

Cross-Country Skiing

When the snow is deep enough, the Club’s network of trails offers plenty of room to explore on cross-country skis.

Wind your way through the forest and across the property at your own pace, enjoying the quiet that comes with a winter day in the woods. Whether you’re heading out for some exercise or simply looking for another reason to spend time outdoors, cross-country skiing is a great way to experience the Club during the colder months.

Members are welcome to bring their own skis and enjoy the trails as winter conditions permit.

Ice Hockey

When the ice is ready, there is always room for a little hockey.

Members can grab their sticks, lace up their skates and enjoy a casual game on the Club’s outdoor ice. From kids taking a few shots at the net to an impromptu family game, it is less about keeping score and more about getting outside and enjoying winter together.
